What do you think of when you think of young people in inner city London?
Guns? Crime? Drugs? Laziness? Hoodies? Aggression? Gangs?
“That’s not us!” said the young people who took part in L’Ouverture’s Dare2Dream project between October 2007 and March 2008.
Over 70 12-19 year olds worked together to present their own visions of youth culture. Using their own experiences and skills they developed on the project, they have expressed their interpretation of the theme “Aspirations” in videos, still images and this website. Look at the examples of their work here and you’ll see an antidote to the negative stereotypes. You’ll see talent, creativity, music, friendship, hard work, ambition…
Dare2Dream brought together young people from across inner city London to participate in arts and media activities supported by professionals from the creative industries. While working towards creation of their end products, they developed technical and management skills and learnt more about the opportunities that further education and the creative industries can offer them.
